Kanien’kéha Oral Dictionary
Welcome to our Kanien’kéha written and oral dictionary. Currently, only approximately 3,500 people speak Kanien’kéha. Through the system of colonization, including the forced implementation of Indian Residential and Day schools, Indigenous languages have been suppressed and restricted amongst Onkwehón:we. As a measure of decolonization, relearning the language is an important step for many Kanien’kehá:ka communities and we hope that this dictionary can prove to be a useful tool for this process.
