Powwow scene

Story told by Amelia McGregor

I was in a movie with Pierce Brosnan. He was filming Grey Owl. Joe and I were there with a few people from town. I was given a leather dress to wear.

We were filming a powwow scene in a field in Kanehsatà:ke. It was nighttime and there was a huge helium balloon tied to the ground to light up all the teepees that were there.

There was a small pop-up tent and inside there was a computer screen where you could see the scene being filmed.

I was standing near the pop-up tent watching the screen when I heard a voice next to me say, “How does it look?”

When I turned around, it was Pierce Brosnan. I took a deep breath and said, “Relax, he’s just a person like everybody else.”

I said, “It looks pretty good. I thought you were going to be in that scene. How come you’re out here?”

He said he didn’t need to be in that part of the movie. We were talking just like two friends.

There was an older Cree woman in the movie. Her granddaughter was her escort because she had a hard time walking.

Her granddaughter took her to the bathroom, and I said, “Can I help you?”

She said, “Yeah, I would really appreciate it.”

As we were walking, Pierce Brosnan was coming towards us. When he saw the old lady, he went to her and held her face in his hands. He said, “You remind me so much of my grandmother.”

He was so endearing to her.

When I spoke to him again, I said, “You know what you did eh?”

He said, “Did I do something wrong?”

I said, “Where she comes from, because of what you did to her, she thinks you’re gonna marry her.”

He said, “But she’s older?”

I said, “Doesn’t matter. She thinks that you’re offering your hand in marriage. You have to be careful because that’s tradition in our culture.”

He was getting so nervous. I turned back around and said, “I’m just pulling your leg, don’t worry about it.”

When the scene was over, I asked him, “Would you mind if I get your autograph?”

Some people asked to get a picture with him, and he said yes but he said that he wanted to get a picture with me first.

I thought that he was just going to stand next to me, but he put his arm around me and held my hand for the picture. Holy crap!
